AN ARTIFICIAL CREATION

An artificial creation. That is Polish president Lech Kaczynski's view of the European Union, an artificial creation which ploughs on aimlessly and has no solid budgetary foundations. It is, he added, a superstate which polarises countries' areas of competence but which at the same time is rather helpless because it only has a symbolic budget.

These remarks were addressed to the German daily Die Welt and conveyed by the English language Deutsche Welle which then went on to report Kaczynski's speech at Berlin's Humboldt University at the end of his two-day visit to Germany.

He went on to declare that it was a myth to think that all Europeans had a shared outlook. "There is no European public opinion, rather national public opinions," he said."

July 2005

The year 2005 brought an abrupt halt to the seemingly invincible progress of the “EU” to political integration that was essential for economic integration.

Suddenly, the French-German axis cracked - and ‘Eurosceptic’ pessimism “It’s going to take a mammoth struggle and ugly war to win ‘Europe’ back” enjoyed an upturn. Maybe ‘Europe’ and in particular its individual ‘nation-states’ could be regained for democracy, against this unmoving totalitarian ‘EU’?

In July 2005, it is far, far too early to break open the champagne. The French-German axis may look finished - but look ahead five years and see where “honourable principle” has come in the political-race.

You would be well advised to be cautious, in your celebrations. Since the 1930’s the extreme ‘Europhile’ viewpoint has been slow, highly security-conscious, and so-carefully step-by-step. Its aim has been total integration of Europe, politically, economically and culturally. Fanatics do not give up easily. And today’s quality of ‘politicians’ is just not up to the task of protecting ‘democracy’ and ‘openness’. ‘Materialism’ and ‘my personal success and future’ are in the main their underlying rule. For ‘statesmen’ we continue to look.'Britain's bureaucracy is a menace, but Brussels bureaucracy is a nightmare. It makes any national bureaucracy gasp with admiration!'

THIS SITE is for those wanting to know more of “How the EU came about”.

You may not be satisfied with the factual, bland, unquestioning History as presented on the Internet by one of the innumerable, self-satisfied European Union ‘history’ departments.

There are many starting points that can be referenced - and most if they have any independence from the EU are informative, have the feel of true History. This site opens on the emotive, principled, idealistic beginnings during and just after the first World War.

This site explores, in terse, brief fashion, the true History that preceded the secretive, stealthy formation of today’s EU.

Our interest, in the 1920’s and 30’s is in names that have passed through History. They are seldom mentioned in what purports to be ‘EU’ History, whose starting point is given is 1957.

The true and real History dates from the 1920’s when it dawned on many of the key players in political and economic life – and those deeply concerned that ‘A World War starting in Europe must not be allowed to arise again’. They saw that, realistically, practically, the integration and supra-national objectives for governing ‘Europa’, seemingly essential, could not be openly touted politically, and had to go underground.

The longer-term aim of this website is to promote greater understanding – through brief essays and comments – about the true History of the steps, developments which led to the ‘EU’ being formed in 1957, the Treaty of Rome.

AFTER THAT DATE, you are on your own: all the stepping-stones, and the clues to truth, are there for you to read about in books, reports, the Internet.

THE PAST underscores the present. Know something more of the early, political, economic ‘Idealists’ and their most honourable hopes and principles, and then your view of the current 2005 ‘Monster’, which is today’s EU, becomes clearer.

I am not cynical about all politicians: they all work within a framework of their own times, whether it be the 1920’s, the 1940’s, this year amazingly upsetting (in terms of the EU) year of 2005.

Bill E JamesSome politicians become Statesmen; it is a different order of consciousness. We’re a bit short of clear consciousness at this time. May the next decade be as politically startling – but for the Good, as Plato might have wished?

authority, has attempted to ride rough shod over the rights and
liberties of the subject it is to this document that appeal has
again and again been made, and never, as yet, without success...”
